Winter Festival

One of the key winter events organized by AFFNO in the Smithers area is the Franco-fun Ski Day, held at the Hudson Bay Mountain Ski Resort. This activity has been hosted by AFFNO as part of its mission to promote Francophone culture throughout Northwestern British Columbia.
Throughout the day, families, French immersion students, Francophones, and Francophiles gather on the slopes to enjoy an outdoor winter activity together. One of the most popular moments is the tasting of maple taffy on snow, prepared right on site. This classic Québec tradition brings an authentic and festive touch that contrasts beautifully with the alpine setting of the mountain.
The Franco-fun Ski Day is more than just a recreational outing: it’s a way for AFFNO to make Francophone culture visible and accessible, even in a rural region far from major urban centres. The event creates a bridge between sport, food, and culture, offering the perfect setting for families to meet, connect, and enjoy the winter season together.
