National Celebration of Francophones

St. Jean Baptiste

One of AFFNO’s major cultural events is the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Celebration, a summertime gathering that brings together Francophones, Francophiles, and curious community members from across Northwestern British Columbia. Inspired by Québec’s national holiday, this event highlights Francophone culture in a warm, festive, and family-friendly atmosphere.

The day usually begins with outdoor activities open to everyone: children’s games, musical entertainment, creative workshops, and sometimes performances by local artists. Music plays a central role in the celebration—concerts, traditional songs, and guest Francophone performers help create a lively and welcoming ambiance.

The favourite moment of the event is the community meal, often featuring Francophone specialties, barbecue dishes, and shared desserts. The goal is simple: to bring people together, encourage conversation, and let everyone enjoy a day filled with joy and connection.

AFFNO’s Saint-Jean-Baptiste Celebration is more than just a festive gathering. It is an opportunity to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity, strengthen community ties, and proudly promote Francophone presence in northern British Columbia. Over the years, it has become one of the region’s must-attend summer events.
